Items completed and progression of items as stated in SOP
for Judges Committee at the last annual meeting are as follows:
J. Development of educational materials:
1. An open book test on NASMA rule book has been implemented
and sent to all NASMA carded judges with a time completion
deadline for return. If not returned by deadline their name will
be removed from judges list.
2. Development of video as educational material for judges still
in process. Hopefully we can have this developed and implemented
by the end of 2008.
3. Addition of a new page to NASMA website titled "THE SHOW RING"
which is designed to assist NASMA carded judges as well as
our members by keeping them abreast of problems during the show
year. Here they can review viable issues that have come up such as
rule book violations, show ring etiquette as well as concerns
taken from evaluation forms. There will also be a section "The
Judges View" where our judges can address issues they may have and
answer questions from our members. This page will up dated
quarterly.
K. Annual letter was written and sent to all NASMA certified
judges (prior to first show of the year) thanking them for their
professionalism and dedication to the association. The letter also
reminded them to review the NASMA rule book, paying specific
attention to any new changes or addition/deletions t the rules. Also
asking them to contact rules committee/NASMA secretary on rules that
they may need to have clarified.
L. All judges were sent new rule books
M. Clarification of term "division" established and guest judges
cards designed and processed for qualified applicants. Written
letter encouraging guest judges to apply for permanent NASMA judge's
card sent with approved guest card. We have had three new judges
added to our list with new applications in process.
N. All newly approved shows ask to make NASMA evaluation forms
available at entry office or booth. Via show approval committee.
O. Encourage newly approved shows to hold educational talks or
clinics for members as well as spectators. (Via show approval
committee) A mule and donkey clinic was held at the Congress show .
P. Membership was sent email that judges evaluation forms were
available on NASMA website. At the same time they were reminded to
review on page 50.1. Treatment of judges as well as reviewed time
limitations for formal complaints.
Q. Guest judge's card reviewed and policy established. See G.
Guest Judges Card. Under 135 Judges of rule book.
R. The judges committee strongly discourages the over use of
judges. Judges list has been removed from web site and replaced with
notification of request for current list of available judges will be
provided to show when applying for sanctioning. Judges are able to
judge two shows a year, one east of Mississippi, one west of
Mississippi plus the world show, where ever its location. Their
names will be included or removed from list depending on location of
show. This plan is an attempt to eliminate over use of judges and to
give unused as well as newly carded judges a chance to officiate a
NASMA event.
S. Plan of accountability as well as discipline for violation of
NASMA rule book by a judge has been implemented. Plan as follows:
Judges are held accountable of the NASMA rule book Lack of knowledge
or disregard of said rule book resulting in rule violations within
two shows will cause suspension from the NASMA judges list for one
year. Judges file will be reviewed before reinstatement.
T. Judges sent letter thanking all of them for their commitment
to NASMA organization. Encouraging those who have not been contacted
or been contracted to officiate a NASMA show to please be patent as
well as informing those who had of NASMA’s appreciation of their
professionalism, knowledge and unbiased opinions in the show arena.
Also reminding them to renew their membership’s as well as to review
their contact information.
It is our hope to attract the best by being the best thru
education, communication and dedication.
