Show and Event Sanctioning Committee Report

Good Evening NASMA Board of Directors and NASMA Officers:

2007 has been a great year for NASMA shows. We have added several new shows and retained most of the shows we had. We regrettably lost Denver Stock Show, Houston Livestock Expo, and Franklin County Fair. We gained Florida State Fair, Adams County Fair, Larimer County Fair, Colorado State Fair, Oklahoma State Fair and the North American Int. Livestock Expo for a 2007 year end total of 14 NASMA sanctioned shows. One of the highlights of the show roster is the number of actual double judged shows in 2007. These are shows where points are awarded from each judge.

Debbie Brewer, webmaster and pointskeeper, comprised a list for me of NASMA shows since 2004. In 2005, Wyoming is missing from the list due to Debbie not receiving the records. The shows are listed on the web.

Also included below are the total number of entries in NASMA sanctioned classes since 2004. As you can see, total numbers of entries were down in 2007 even though the number of shows was up. Increased fuel prices has had a major effect on show attendance. Another factor may be we now have automated record keeping and I feel confident our numbers are more accurate than ever before.

2008 shows are now being sanctioned, with the first being the Florida State Fair. We are also receiving calls for sanctioning new shows in 2008.

I want to thank the members of the show and event sanctioning committee for their efforts this year, Stacy Golian, Peggy O'Dell Hamilton and Lori Montgomery. I respect their opinions and I rely on them a great deal. Also thanks to Sue King (NASMA Executive Secretary), Debbie Brewer (NASMA pointskeeper and website guru), Kim Riddle, (NASMA registrar) and Cheryl Metheny (Amateur Chair). They played an invaluable role in 2007 on behalf of the exhibitors. There were several times this year when a NASMA member/exhibitor needed something and through combined efforts on weekends, on cell phones or over the internet, we all worked hard to get it done.

I wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas. See you in the New Year.

Sincerely,

Julie H. Waugh
NASMA Show and Event Sanctioning Chairperson
