LORI MONTGOMERY and WILLIE, a Winning Pair |
| |
No, not Waylon and Willie, but Lori Montgomery of Crittenden, KY and
her now famous, 14.2 hand mule Willie are a winning combination!
After the first go round in the Craig Cameron Extreme Cowboy Race held
at the Equine Affaire in Columbus, OH this past April, Willie and Lori
were in first place. The large crowd of spectators got behind Willie
because he was the underdog. In the second go round Willie and Lori
walked away with second, bringing home $1,500 and a brand new saddle.
The race was limited to 35 entries….and Willie was the only mule in
the competition.
Lori said she had a GREAT time, and it seemed a thousand people came
to her afterward telling her they now wanted a mule….talk about
exciting!!!
After watching The Extreme Cowboy Race on RFD TV, Lori thought this
would be so much fun, so she applied to compete and felt honored to be
picked by Cameron.
Lori gave us a little history on Willie. He is around 16 years old and
is a bay roan. Willie was given to Lori and her husband, ‘Hoppy’, in
February 1998. He had been used as a pulling mule and had been badly
abused; it took him a long time before he trusted the Montgomery’s.
Many people who watch Lori and her show mule, Fancy’s My Name, asked
why she chose Willie over Fancy. Her reply was, “What a SILLY
question, I went to win, so I took my best mule for that event.” She
commented she is very proud of what Willie did, and the pair is now
qualified to compete at the first World Extreme Cowboy Race to be held
in November.
Congratulations Lori and Willie….and good luck in November! |
