NASMA President’s Pen

I’ve long been fascinated with the Powers of Ten. They start at 10¹º something, and each succession of degree is an inward magnification: through the Milky Way, the Solar System, past Mars, until we finally hone in on the planet Earth. With each magnitude, the Universe becomes a bit clearer. The Powers of Ten attempts to show us different ways to look at our universe, and demonstrate how much difference just a small shift in magnitude can change one's perspective.

They all have one thing in common - the Power of 1º. The absolute Power of One. The Power of One is the magnitude in which we live and con-duct our daily lives. It might be a single leaf, a flower or a child on a bicycle. At the Power of 1º the world comes into focus. The Power of One is in all of us and is all of us. This phenomenon is demonstrated over and over again in our organization.

A few recent examples:

There is a saying that if you want something done, give it to the busiest person you know. Enter Elisha Iager, NASMA’s new Youth Advisor! Elisha’s days are full with crop farming, dairy farming, silk screen-ing for her promotional business, breed organizations, benefits, mule shows, kids’ sports, and 4-H. What do you do in your spare time, Elisha – horse around? She radiates with enthusiasm when she speaks about fund raisers, get togethers, awards, shows and the importance of sportsmanship. One thing for certain – NASMA kiddos are in good hands with her at the helm. Quick reminders:
* NASMA Youth memberships are just $10 a year!
* Two $500 scholarships are awarded each year to graduating seniors who have met criteria.
* Raffle tickets for a saddle to be given at the 2012 National Show in Shelbyville are being sold as a fund raiser. You can purchase tickets at any NASMA show, or contact Elisha - www.ladylongears@gmail.com Once again, the saddle is being donated by the ever-generous Golians Saddles and Tack. Thank you, Dave and Stacy Golian!
* Your Youth Directors - Madison Iager, Kat Schauger and Hunter Gramman. How is this trio for ‘leading by example’?!

As 2011 Shows are winding down, my gratitude to the show managers who have sanctioned a show with NASMA, for your continued devotion to creating the best event possible.

Sue King - you've done it again! Sue has set us up with Cafe Press - your source for official NASMA Logo Merchandise. Logo wear, drink ware, bags and fun stuff – great advertising and possibilities for awards, fund raisers, Shows….Check out NASMA Logo Merchandise here.

We are blessed with the best National Mule and Donkey Publications – your magazines are a wealth of information, great photos, entertainment, and the stories that bind us. It took 38 years for 50 million people to use the radio, 13 years for 50 million people to watch TV, 4 years to reach 50 million internet users, and less than 1 year for 200 million people to join Facebook. All said, there’s nothing better than sitting with your magazine in our hands. It takes a special talent to bring it right into our homes each month and hit it out of the ball park every time, and you do!

To our volunteers, thanks to each and every one of you for what you do for the NASMA organization.
And never, ever underestimate the Power of One.
