Fellow
NASMA Members,
First, I would like to Thank the membership for nominating me for
President of NASMA. Secondly, I would like to Thank the Board of
Directors for approving the Election.I am not one to talk about
myself, but feel you should know a little about your new President.
I was born and raised in Iowa and moved out west in 1980 to become a
professional hunting guide. In 1991 my partner, Doris Roesch & I
started our own outfitting business, Bliss Creek Outfitters. In 1993
we purchased our first Jack and started raising mules & donkeys.
I accepted the nomination from the membership for one reason, to
make NASMA the best Mule & Donkey Association it can be.
My job as President of NASMA is not to make the decisions to run
the association. The association will be run by the members through
the Board of Directors. I have been blessed, by the membership, to
be given a great Executive Committee . The committee has members
from all areas of the country.
My job as President is not to run NASMA. That is the job of the
members through the Board of Directors. NASMA’s By-Laws states the
president “Shall see that all By-Laws, Rules & Regulations of the
association are enforced & shall perform all other duties that may
be prescribed from time to time by the Board of Directors”.
I am a black & white kind of guy. Either you follow the rules or
legally change them.
A lot has happen with NASMA in the last 3 months, some good, some
bad. Today starts a new chapter in NASMA. It is time to look to the
future and leave the past behind. The membership has taken NASMA
back, but there is much more work to be done. A wise man once said
“You can not change the past, but you can mold the future”.
One of the problems NASMA has had in the past is a not enough
committee members. So some members were on several committees and
problems developed. NASMA needs you help. NASMA currently has
openings for Directors and Committee Chairpersons, and committee
members. The door is wide open for any member to become more
involved with the association. Members must take advantage of this
opportunity.
NASMA is a fast growing organization. The mule & donkey shows are
getting bigger and bigger every year. You notice I said “mule &
donkey shows” The NASMA Board of Directors are working very hard to
get more donkeys and their owners involved in NASMA. The Board
believes mules & donkeys should be equal in NASMA. We need more
involvement from donkey members.
There are many other areas of NASMA that need membership support,
VTP trail riding program, breed improvement, NASMA youth are just a
few that come to mind. I hear the comment from some mule & donkey
people that NASMA is all showing or “I don’t show, so why should I
be involved?” Showing is the number one activity of NASMA, Why? The
answer is simple, the people showing mules & donkeys are the people
active in NASMA.
NASMA currently has 18 committees which only 5 are for members
that show. That leaves 13 committees, many which are in need of
support, for non showing members. I am hopeful that in the next
couple of years the Show sector of NASMA continues to grow and the
Trail Riding, Breed Improvement, and other aspects of NASMA catch-up
to the show sector.
For those members that think they do not have a voice in NASMA,
here’s your chance. Give me a call or Email, sign up for a
committee, attend a meeting, host a trail ride, sign up a friend for
a membership or just let me know your suggestions. You will be heard
and you can make a difference.
Sincerely,
Tim Doud
