From the President's Pen

April 7, 2006

Tim Doud, PresidentDear NASMA Members,

On April 1, 2006 The North American Saddle Mule Association, NASMA, held a board of Directors meeting in Las Vegas, NV. Directors from California, Oregon, Florida, New York and everywhere in between attended.

One of the main items on the agenda was to elect officers and implement Judge Fostel’s court order. Loren Basham was voted as Vice President, Sue King Executive Secretary, Donna Wilburn, Treasury and Kim Riddle was appointed as the new NASMA Registrar. The board also voted to establish the business address of NASMA as PO Box 343, Boyd, TX 76023.

NASMA has moved past the court case and is moving forward. The “new” NASMA will be member driven. Members are encouraged to get involved. This is your Association and members will run NASMA. It is time to look forward not backward.

Committee chairmen were also approved by the Board and are listed at www.nasma.net. Chairmen are currently selecting members for their committees. I would recommend every member to log on to the web site and volunteer for a committee. This is your opportunity to become involved in NASMA. Your voice will be heard.

While on the web site, be sure to check out the NASMA rule book. It is now available on the web site. You may also use PayPal to renew your NASMA dues.

For those mule & donkey lovers who are not NASMA members, I encourage you to join today. NASMA is committed to not only increase NASMA shows, but to provide more activities and events for non-showing mule and donkey lovers.

The Board of Directors is looking for new members to help with the Trail Program. NASMA would like to host many rides through out the Untied States. This has been an area that has “fallen through the cracks”. Trail rides are fun, family events. If you are a trail rider, volunteer to serve on the committee or host a ride. The reason we all own mules and donkeys is to enjoy them and perhaps attend actives with them and have fun doing it. You do not have to own a show quality mule or donkey to participate in the trail program.

The Breed Improvement Committee will be looking at ways to help breeders produce better mules and donkeys. If you are interested in raising mules or donkeys or stand a Jack, this is the committee for you. We all want to see the best mules and donkeys being produced and we can help each other do just that.

I hope you have fun with your mules and donkeys, showing, trail riding or just watching them enjoy a good roll in the pasture. Remember to check the NASMA web site www.nasma.net for current news and updates.

Sincerely,

Tim Doud
