From the President's Pen

March 2007

Dear Fellow NASMA Members,

April is upon us which means spring is in full swing. By now, many of you will have new foals frolicking in the pasture, and mule and donkey lovers are out and about with their equines. The show season is also underway. Remember to check the official NASMA web site www.nasma.net for NASMA sanctioned shows. This year we have several new NASMA sanctioned shows, and more are being added daily.

Be sure to mark your calendars as the All American Mule & Donkey Congress is coming to Jackson, OH from April 27th to the 29th. During this event, NASMA will hold a board of Directors meeting. We will meet on April 26 at 6:00 pm, and I would like to invite all NASMA members to attend the board meeting. Remember, any NASMA member may attend any Board of Directors meeting and provide input to the board.

Just as the show season has started, so have the trail rides. Be sure to check www.nasma.net for information on the VTP Tail Committee. Through this committee you can earn awards for time spend riding your mule or donkey. All NASMA sanctioned trail rides will also be posted on the web site.

NASMA is an organization by and for its members. Members are encouraged to participate in NASMA. There are many ways to become involved - become a committee member, attend a meeting or run for a board of director office. The only requirement is to love mules and donkeys and have a desire to help advance them into the equine world.

In that regard, we are asking the Members to vote for the time and place for the 2006 Awards Banquet. Please mail your choice to NASMA, PO Box 343, Boyd, TX 76023 or e-mail nasma@nasma.net.

The choices are:

Jul 12-14, 2007 The Great Celebration Mule and Donkey Show, Shelbyville, TN
Aug 3-5, 2007 All Star Mule and Donkey Show and Futurity. Boone County Fairgrounds, Columbia, MO
Aug 31-Sep 1, 2007 Colorado State Fair Pueblo, CO
Sep 21-23, 2007 Oklahoma State Fair Oklahoma City, OK

Many are unsure about running for office in a national association. However, NASMA makes it very simple for anyone to become a board member. We currently have openings and any interest is welcomed. If you are interested in working for mules and donkeys, give me a call or drop me an E Mail. As NASMA President I work for NASMA members. If you have any questions, concerns or would like to get involved with NASMA let me know.

As always remember to give you mule and donkey a hug today.

Sincerely,
Tim Doud
