From the President’s Pen

September 2007

Tim Doud, PresidentLabor Day has pasted and fall is here. Fall in Wyoming means two things, cooler weather and hunting season. We have had our usual hot and dry weather, so the fall temperatures will be a welcome relief.

World Show
For Mule and Donkey lovers around the United States, Fall means the show season is coming to an end. NASMA held it’s 5th annual World Show August 2-5 in Columbia, Missouri. This year’s World Show was another huge success. Karl Schneider and his committee once again did a remarkable job putting on the successful show. Putting on any Mule/Donkey Show is very time consuming job, let along a World Show. Please thank Karl and his committee when you see them.

If you want to be a member of the World Show Committee, the volunteers are already gearing up for 2008 and welcome anyone wishing to help with next year’s extravaganza. If you are interested in serving, please let me know.

VTP
Stacy Golin is the new VTP Committee Chairperson. She has put the VTP Committee into “High Gear” and the VTP now has a professional brochure to promote the exciting program. The brochure was paid for by advertisers. No money from any NASMA account was used for the brochure. This is an excellent example of a committee chairperson finding and securing outside funding for a NASMA project. If you have a ride you would like NASMA to sanction, give Stacy a call.

In many areas the trail riding season never ends. October 4-6, 2007 the NASMA National Trail Ride will be held at Horse Heaven Ranch in Talihina, Oklahoma. NASMA Zone 5 VTP Ride at Midwest Trail Ride will be held October 12-14, 2007. You can find information on both of these rides on the NASMA web site.

Thank You NASMA Board of Directors & Membership
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the NASMA Board of Directors and the NASMA membership for my re-election as NASMA President. All of us get busy in our daily lives, however, my goal is to do an even better job as your president this year. I look forward to serving you for another year and hope we can continue to grow this organization with member input.

NASMA is an organization run by the membership. I encourage every member to become more involved in your association. NASMA will only be as good as it’s membership participation allows. We all have our own mule/donkey interests. You may love showing, breeding, training, trail riding, driving, etc. There is a NASMA committee that covers your interests.

Many people have trouble taking that first step, but everyone is happy they did. It is your chance to meet people with the same interest as you. People wanting to improve the mule/donkey industry and to help the animals they love.

Sometimes it’s hard to get involved in a national association, the thought is usually “their different than me and I’ll never fit in”. NASMA is not that type of association. It is made up of everyday mule/donkey loving people, just like you.

I encourage all members to log on to the official NASMA web site www.nasma.net and click on “Committees”. Find a committee that covers your interests and E-mail or give me or the committee chairman a call. Remember the officers and directors of NASMA work for you, the membership. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, let me know.

Sincerely,

Tim Doud
NASMA President
