From the President’s Pen

January 2008

Tim Doud, PresidentI would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members of NASMA that served on a NASMA Committee or as a Director in 2007. I hope you’ve found how rewarding it is to become involved in NASMA.

I would like to extend another big thank-you to all NASMA Committee chair persons; those who run NASMA Committees and help promote the mule & donkey industry through their work. Two members in particular I would like to mention are Stacy Golian and Mel Wilson.

Stacy Golian runs the NASMA Versatility Trail Program. VTP has been a very important program to NASMA and its members. The program is designed to reward riders for time spend riding their mule/donkeys. The program is also designed to educate the equine world on the benefits of owning Mules & Donkey’s as trail animals.

Prior to Stacy’s tenure, the VTP program was not keeping up with other NASMA programs and committees. However, Stacy has given the VTP Program a huge shot of life. Because of Stacy and her committee, VTP has now surpassed many other NASMA Committees. The VTP Program also now has an informational brochure to promote the program and NASMA. This brochure will be handed out at trail rides, horse shows and other gathers of equines.

Stacy’s committee not only designed and printed the brochure; they acquired advertisers to pay all expenses associated with the brochure. The end result was a high quality brochure that cost NASMA members nothing, but gives them so much to be proud of.

Mel Wilson volunteered to chair the Membership Committee. In a very short time she has assembled committee members, published, printed and mailed a monthly NASMA Newsletter. Every NASMA member received their first copy in January. Mel and her committee have bigger and better ideas for the newsletter in the future.

Mel has done an amazing job in such a short period of time. Her efforts and time spent are very much appreciated by NASMA.

Both of these ladies showed how easy it is to become involved in NASMA. The only requirement needed is a love of mules and donkeys. It is very important for any association to keep a flow of new members serving the association. This brings new life and ideas.

NASMA is currently holding nominations for 2008 Directors in Zone 1 and 3. There are also a few committee chairmanships open. Members willing to serve on NASMA committees are always welcome.

This is your opportunity to become involved and give something back to the animals you love so much. Log on to www.nasma.net and nominate yourself or someone you know to serve as a Director, Committee Chair or Committee Member. You can also call or email me, Tim Doud. I always welcome input from members. Remember NASMA is your association, You run it, Get involved!

Sincerely,

Tim Doud
