Thank you to NASMA membership for the confidence in my ability to
serve as your President.
As I sit and ponder what I want to say to the members of NASMA, the
word "Pride" keeps popping into my head.
Pride as described in Webster's Dictionary: A sense of one's own
proper dignity or value; self-respect. Pleasure or satisfaction
taken in an achievement, possession, or association.
After an awesome beginning, NASMA went through some tough times,
mistakes were made and corrected. As NASMA moves forward we continue
to strive for complete transparency. Somewhere along the trail it
seems to me that we have lost some of the Pride we should have in
our organization. We have Pride in our mules and donkeys and that
same Pride needs to carry over to our association. NASMA is not
perfect and I'm sure we will continue to have a few bumps and hills
to climb along the trail. But like our faithful friends, the mules
and donkeys, we just have to dig in and move forward, not backward
and get it right
It is very important for any association to keep a flow of new
members, new ideas and to rise to the expectations of its founding
members. When only a few members volunteer to chair or serve on
committees that govern the association it has a tendency to miss
opportunities for growth and change. As your President I would like
to challenge every member to take an active part in your
organization. If there is an area that you have a special interest
in or an area that you feel needs improvement, speak up! If your
zone director doesn't contact you then you contact them or contact
me. As we have moved into a global society most of our
correspondence and business is conducted via our website. Please
check it often. Remember NASMA is only as strong as its membership.
I would like to extend a special thank you to Karl Schneider for
keeping NASMA running smoothly during his tenure. We are privileged
to have you and I look forward to again working with you on the
Executive Committee.
Please join me in welcoming our new Directors David McDonald,
Stephen Jardot, Jay Jaxtheimer, and Terri Barfield as Director and
Treasurer. I am confident they will do an outstanding job during their
terms in office.
Last but certainly not least, I’d like to thank Debbie Brewer for
her many years of service to NASMA. As our web master Debbie worked
diligently to make the NASMA website what it is today, a world class
internet site. Our sincere appreciation to Sue King for accepting
the position as NASMA web master.
Sincerely,
Tom Cochran
NASMA President
