Shawnee Nation Forest NASMA Ride
October 10-13, 2008

The Second Annual NASMA VTP Trail Ride was held over Columbus Day Weekend
at Double M Campground, Junction Illinois.
Even heavy rain didn't dampen the NASMA VTP Ride. Riders from Illinois,
Missouri and Kentucky hit the trails on Saturday and Sunday for a scenic
ride through the Shawnee National Forest.
A wiener roast and chili supper was held on Saturday night.
The weekend ended with a very successful Silent Auction held to raise
money for the NASMA VTP Program and the Youth Scholarship Fund.
From Glynda Bates:
Lots of folks did not come due to rain on Friday. Poured down and
I'm sure they felt that the trail would be a mess. Saturday, Sunday and
Monday was cooool with bright sunshine. Terry and I went over on Saturday,
missed the rides but had fun at the evening meal. Lori and Hoppy
Montgomery were there. First time for us to socialize with them. They were
pleasant and fun to be with. Chili, sloppy joes and hot dogs for supper.
Blonde brownies, chocolate cake and roasted marshmallows for dessert.
Peggy and Rick Hamilton were there. Peggy made margaritas. My half glass
was good. Would be very good on a hot day. Other campers who were Vicky's
friends ate with us. Riders on Sunday were Lori and Hoppy, Terry and
Megan, Vicky and Peggy. Peggy's husband Rick didn't ride. Had four stints
put in in June and Doc is not ready for him to ride except at home. The
trail was ok - a few wet places and some slick spots but they stayed out
six hours.
The campground was full to the brim. A big ride on Sunday. It's annual
event called the E-town ride and lots of locals come out for it.
