Kapi
started riding horses in Las Vegas when she was five years old. Her
Dad came back to Indiana to take over the family’s physician
practice where she started taking lessons at Rocking Horse Farm with
her new coach Kristine Dunn. In 2006 Kapi was introduced to the Mule
world at RHF, where she started showing on the NASMA circuit with
her first show ever being the Kentucky Championship Show in Liberty,
Kentucky. She placed 2nd at the age of 7. She practiced all winter
long and went to the Congress in Jackson where she won the 10 and
Under High Point and received her first buckle. Her other
achievements in the equine world include 2007 High Point Peewee
Division at Madison County Horsemen’s Club, Reserve Grand Champion
Geldings at Marion County Fair showing RHF’s Big Mike, 3x
World Champion and 3x Reserve World Champion showing Applejack
finishing her 2007 show year 10 and Under Reserve Champion. Kapi and
Mike were also the front page of the Indianapolis Star News – South
Indy Section in 2007.
Her
favorite mount is RHF’s Big Mike and she loves to take her lessons
on him. Her fondest memory is when she and Mike were doing the
costume class at the 2007 Congress in Jackson, Ohio. Kapi decided
she wanted to do Howie Mandel from Deal or No Deal and Big Mike was
going to be one of the display girls. So Kapi’s Mom made a dress,
earrings, and game cases for Mike and Kapi wore a man’s suit
(adjusted of course) and a rubber glove over her head to make her
look bald. Leading Mike into the ring there was a lady dressed like
a waitress and a mini donkey in a costume of a table, table cloth
and a plate of real spaghetti – in front of Mike. Mike started
dragging Kapi over to try to eat the spaghetti off of the donkey.
Luckily, Kapi’s good friends came to the rescue.
Kapi also enjoys participating in kickball, basketball,
cheerleading, spelling bee finalist, swimming, and gymnastics. She
has a younger brother and sister
Kainoa and Lili who also enjoy
riding.
